Volunteers with the Woodstock-Ingersoll and District Real Estate Board will be collecting food donations today and all the proceeds will be going to local Salvation Army food banks.
WOODSTOCK/INGERSOLL - The Woodstock-Ingersoll and District Real Estate Board is about to start collecting donations for the 10th annual Realtors Care Food Drive.
Local realtor Cassandra Benard says their volunteers started dropping donation bags off at homes in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Beachville, Sweaburg, Innerkip and Embro last week.
"We have volunteers staple some flyers to shopping bags indicating what the food banks are looking for and what the food drive is for. With 110 volunteers across Oxford County, we go door-to-door and leave them on people's porches and tie them to their door knobs and we pick them up a week later."
All of the donations will be picked up between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. tonight and they will be going to the local Salvation Army food banks in Woodstock and Ingersoll.
Benard says the food drive has been a huge success over the years.
"In the last 10 years we've raised about 166,000 pounds of food. Back in 2019 when we were last able to do it, we collected 25,000 pounds in Woodstock and 3,500 pounds in Ingersoll. We're always looking to improve on that every year."
