INGERSOLL - Oxford County got the bicycle wheels rolling at the Share The Road cycling event in Ingersoll. The event attracted riders young and old for the 5 kilometre trek along Ingersoll roadways and cycling trails such as Smith's Pond and Centennial Park. Ingersoll Councillor Brian Petrie and East-Zorra Tavistock Mayor Don McKay were just a few politicians taking park in the ride.

Public Health Nurse for Oxford County Public Health Lorna Boratto coordinated the event and hopes residents will hop on their bicycles this summer to rack up kilometres for the Million Kilometre Challenge.
"Our goal is to reach a million kilometres, that's the accumulated total of what is ridden in Oxford County, so we want everybody to put in the kilometres that they've ridden, even one kilometre, it counts."
The kilometres only count if they are ridden in Oxford County. If you are interested in taking part in the challenge and logging your kilometres you can register www.rideoxford.ca

Boratto has already got a head start on logging her kilometres.
"Well firstly so far this year - just because it was a late spring and I didn't start until the beginning of April - I've done about 450 km so far, last year only about 3500 km..."

Around 18 riders were in attendance when the Share The Road event kicked off at the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum. To date residents have racked up a total of 183,000 km since last year.
