The Woodstock Fire Department responded to four small fires yesterday and Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says they appear to be mischievous in nature.
WOODSTOCK - It was a busy Sunday for the Woodstock Fire Department.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says they responded to four small fires yesterday.
"Yesterday alone we responded to four outdoor fires that were mischievous in nature. They were not individuals having a fire outside of the recorded bylaw, but rather individuals starting a fire for no actual reason."
Woods says two of the fires were bush or grass fires in the area of Oxford Road 4 and Highway 401. She adds it's very dry in that area, and the fires could have been caused by improperly discarded cigarette butts.
Another fire was reported behind the old OPP station on Dundas Street yesterday. One person was taken to hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
Woods says the fourth fire happened at Pittock. She says no fires are allowed in the conservation area without the fire department's approval.
"There is a specific bylaw around that; it must be contained with a grate covering over top of it, it's only allowed between 4:00 p.m. and midnight, use dry season wood only. Individuals are not allowed to start a fire on property that is not their own and not been approved."
