Elizabeth Wettlaufer has waived her right to a preliminary inquiry and will be appearing in person inside the Woodstock Court house on April 21st.
WOODSTOCK - Some major progress in the first degree murder case against Elizabeth Wettlaufer.
Wettlaufer appeared via a video conference inside the Woodstock court house this morning for about five minutes. It was announced that she has waived the right to a preliminary inquiry and will be back in Woodstock in person on April 21st to set a trial date.
Family members and friends of the victims in the case have been coming to a lot of the meetings. Laura Jackson was in attendance today. She is a close personal friend of Maurice "Moe" Granat who is one of the alleged victims in the Wettlaufer case. She says the victims have formed a bond and a support group for one another.
"We have come together to support each other as well and it's not just the three of us, it's all the families, we are here for each other, we keep in contact outside of court and it is helping."
Also in attendance was Susan Horvath who has been to just about every single court case since this whole ordeal began. Her father Orpad Horvath is one of the alleged victims in the case. Horvath has launched a civil suit.
"My mom has also launched a lawsuit as well with me now because after watching the Fifth Estate on Elizabeth Wettlaufer, which was very informative, the things we learned, that has been a big help for her and she is going forward as well and it is not about the money it is about the justice and holding the nursing homes accountable."
Wettlaufer is accused of killing 8 people at two nursing homes she worked at in London and Woodstock. 7 of the deaths were in Woodstock at the local Carressant Care. Wettlaufer is also facing four additional charges of attempted murder and 2 for aggravated assault.
