Woodstock Art Gallery welcomes Mary Reid as the new Director Curator.
WOODSTOCK- Woodstock Art Gallery Director Curator Mary Reid begins her first day on the job today. Reid recently moved here from Manitoba where she has spent the past 9 years working at the provincial art gallery and university level. Reid graduated in 1999 from York University with a Master's in Art History.
"For me this is really an opportunity to come home and to reconnect with a lot of people I didn't know in Ontario before," said Reid.
The attraction of a smaller setting with the chance to interact with a smaller community is what drew her to Woodstock.
"I think I work best within a municipal setting so in Woodstock really I want to get a chance to know people and become more actively involved in the community and become apart of really much the fabric of what's going on here.
Reid has some ideas on how she wants to make the Woodstock Art Gallery a more integral part of residents lives.
"For me what's very important is trying to make art that's something you want to be apart of in your everyday life, so this seems to be very much a hockey town and people are very much embracing sports how can we make art be as important as a hockey game or as meaningful or as interesting."
Reid's door is always open and is encouraging the public to come forward.
"Certainly if anyone has any ideas or thoughts around how the art gallery can serve them what they would like to see at the art gallery I'm all ears, as much as I have my own ideas I'm really interested in hearing other peoples thoughts as well."
