The County is receiving $37 458 in provincial funding to create new resources for the WelcometoOxford.ca website.
OXFORD COUNTY - WelcometoOxford.ca is getting a facelift. Oxford County Council approved an agreement to access funding from the province to move forward with Phase Two of the website. The $37,458 in funding from the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration for Phase Two of the Municipal Immigrant Information Online program will be used to develop new technology such as hosting virtual job fairs on the site. The website is designed to attract newcomers to Oxford County and match them with employment opportunities. The project must be completed by January 31, 2016 or the County risks having to repay the funding.
Oxford County Director of Corporate Services Lynn Buchner points out that there is a need to attract immigrants to the County in order to replace expected labour shortages.
"There has been historical studies that demonstrate that there is going to be a declining workforce within Oxford County so therefore we are looking at outside sources to provide the workforce that we need here and part of that is immigration."
According to Buchner there are a number of resources available on the website to help job seekers local and newcomers find employment in the County.
