The Oxford Attack Under 13 Bantam Boys competitive basketball team split a pair of games in Orangeville on the weekend; easily defeating the Guelph Phoenix 49-16 and narrowly losing a hard fought 38-36 contest to the host Orangeville Hawks. In the Guelph matchup, Carter De Jong led the Attack with 12 points while Cubby Dempster netted 11 points including his first 3-point shot. Zach Friesen also broke into the scoring column with 6 points. Ethan Roberts and Brandon Cowan contributed 3 assists each while the entire Attack team generated 16 assists overall in a well played unselfish style of basketball. Their next game versus Orangeville brought a new level of intensity to the gym the Attack had not yet experienced this season. The Orangeville man to man and zone full court pressure rattled the Attack, forcing turnovers and pushed the Attack into a 10 point deficit by half time. The Attack rallied with full court pressure of their own led by Liam Dempsey and Lucas Gagnon but could not complete the comeback and dropped a close contest. De Jong had the best game of his career with a 13 point, 7 rebound, 7 out of 10 free throw effort. Dempster continued his scoring pace netting 7 points. Jacob Clark also scored in both games. Callaghan Bullen, Adam Bullen and Quinten Quackenbush Schneider did well rebounding for the Attack. The Oxford Attack player of the tournament was Carter De Jong who was a scoring force in the paint and is learning to play better defense against the opponents' biggest players. Up next for the Attack U13's is a home game on Thurs Dec 20 versus Stratford at Huron Park S.S. at 6:50 pm.
