The Ontario Trillium Foundation presented the Woodstock and District Developmental Services with a $150,000 grant that will be used to update the kitchen.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock and District Developmental Services has received a boost from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. OTF board member Brian George along with Oxford County MPP Ernie Hardeman presented WDDS with a $150,000 grant that will be used to update the kitchen with industrial appliances. The renovation will create a larger space with increased storage and wider doorways designed for people with disabilities. OTF board member Brian George said the updated kitchen will allow the WDDS catering company Taste of Woodstock to operate more efficiently, "this has to do with updating and improving their kitchen facilities so that they can continue their catering business called Taste of Woodstock."
The money will also go towards the creation of the Healthy Community Cooking program, a new initiative designed to engage people with disabilities in healthy eating.
WDDS helps to create opportunities for people with disabilities. They are currently running a fundraising campaign for 1.5 million to expand supports to more people. Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman said there is currently a long wait for people to get the services they need.
"There's a waiting list for people that want to get involved in the work shop programs that WDDS provides and this will help them do that and obviously the need in our community keeps growing."
