Double the kitchen space and five new classrooms are coming to WDDS.
WOODSTOCK - Construction is underway for an expansion of the Woodstock and District Developmental Services building on Bysham Park Drive.
Fund Development & Communications Coordinator at WDDS, Kathy DeWeerd says this expansion will allow them to offer more programs to the people and families they support.
"It will double our kitchen space. We have a catering company called The Taste of Woodstock which is one of our social enterprises so that will allow them to increase their sales and increase their employment and we will also be adding five more classrooms." DeWeerd continued "We've tried to make due with the existing space but the community keeps coming to us and wanting more services and we would like to be able to offer them. We need to expand our space so that we will be able to offer the Pre-Employment Skill courses and the Life Skill Courses that we already do but in a more conducive setting."
"We broke ground last week. We should have everything closed in by February 2015 and hopefully the full expansion and the retrofit will be completed by the fall of 2015."
DeWeerd says WDDS has started a 1.5 million fundraising campaign entitled Community is Key, Renewing, Enhancing and Educating which will run over a five year period.
