WCI Students Visit Taiwan

A group of students has returned from a cultural exchange journey to Taiwan.

A group of students from Woodstock Collegiate Institute may be feeling a little more groggy than usual after jetting around the world on a cultural exchange.

Students from grades 12, 11, and a grade 10 student have recently returned from a trip to Taiwan.

Teacher and Guidance Councillor Andree Ribout says the students were able to see first hand the impact that Reverend George MacKay had on the area.

"He did a lot there. He founded the school that we are twinned with. He founded one of their first Western style universities, he established a hospital, and provided a lot of dental care - taught them about western style dental care."

Aside from learning about shared historical figures, the teens also had a chance to learn a little more empathy as they connected with people whose lives aren't really all that different from their own.

"I know some of the students said that teenagers are teenagers no matter where you are in the world. And so just learning that people may seem very different or be from across the world but they're probably just like you."

The group left for Taiwan on March 10th and returned March 18th.
