Woodstock Collegiate Institute has requested $10,000 out of the next county budget, in order to host a Taiwanese exchange program this spring.
WCI is looking to continue their exchange program with Tamkang High School in Taiwan.
Woodstock Collegiate Institute has been sending students to Taiwan for four years, so they can experience life in another country. The students also get to learn more about Reverend George Leslie McKay's legacy overseas.
Teacher Eric Molinaro explains how youth benefit from the trip.
"The students are experiencing something instead of just going on a field trip. On a day trip, a typical field trip at a high school, they would be going to learn some background history for a couple hours in the afternoon. Whereas they're literally spending over a week in a different country meeting and experiencing what students and teachers from my standpoint go through on a daily basis."
Tamkang hosted numerous students from Woodstock earlier this year, so now it's time for WCI to play host.
Molinaro says over 20 students will be coming this spring.
"We plan to show them all around Oxford County so in Woodstock, we've been to Tillsonburg and Zorra Township before, Beachville and lots of different local landmarks, they get to see the Reverend McKay bust in front of the court house. We are planning on taking to Toronto, Niagara Falls and potentially Elora, some other natural sights in the province."
This will be the second time WCI has hosted the exchange program, after the first Taiwanese class visited in 2016.
The school presented a delegation to county council last week, requesting $10,000 out of the next budget for the exchange.
