Detours are in place at Wilson and Cedar due to a water main break
City crews will be busy for the next several days after a water main break Monday morning.
Works Superintendent, Alex Piggott says the water main break is south of the railway tracks at Wilson and Cedar Streets which has forced the closure of the road. "The closure is between Henry Street and Main Street or Hounsfield Street. So the detour route is Finkle Street over the Wellington Street bridge onto Main Street and it is going to be closed for the better part of a week."
Piggott says City Works received the call around 8:30 am Monday morning.
The delay in repairs is mostly due to the location of the water main break. "This one is a complex repair because it involves work with the railway track. There's some coordination there because it is very close to the railway tracks, that we have to coordinate with CN and VIA Rail to ensure that the timing of the work can be done safely."
Piggott says they have been in discussions with CN and VIA Rail through the morning and at this time, they have closed the south track .
Piggott is encouraging motorists to avoid the area altogether as detours are in place which could cause lengthy delays.
