Water conservation should be top of mind once again this summer.
The Oxford County external water conservation by-law is in full effect.
It started on May 1st and runs until September 30th. Director of Public Works for the County Robert Walton explains how the by-law works.
"Many people would refer to it is as the odd even days as to when you can use external water, so properties with street numbers with even numbers get to water on even days in the calendar and people with the odd days get to water on the odd days."
The times are 6-9 in the morning and 6-9 at night for residential properties. For commercial properties it is between 8 to 10 in the morning and 3 to 5 at night. Walton explains why they have this by-law in place.
"We have to control the external water use because at very dry times, if everybody used the water, their isn't enough water in the system for everybody to have external water use for things like watering the lawns, washing your car that kind of thing."
Walton says we have had extremely dry years in the past and they had to add additional rules including water bans.
