Construction on new waste administration building set to start this fall, and should wrap up in mid 2018.
SALFORD - Gateman-Milloy Inc is set to construct the new waste administration building on the landfill site for $1.8 million.
The new building will replace the 100 year old office currently in use. Warden David Mayberry tells Heart FM it will be more than just an administration office.
"Part of the role of that building could be an education centre to help people understand; particularly school children understand the impacts of waste and ways of dealing with waste."
The building is also going to be built to a net zero standard; so it is costing the county a couple hundred thousand dollars more than usual. Mayberry says the net zero standard will help the county save money in the long run.
"It will cost a little more to have state of the art air exchanging, insulation, windows and that sort of stuff. On the other hand over a period of time it will actually pay for itself and that is what you want to look at - what is the life cycle costs rather than what is the immediate up front cost."
On site solar installations will not only power the new admin building but the entire landfill as well.
Construction is set to begin this fall and should wrap up in mid 2018.
