Warden Comments on Pride Flag Incident

The Oxford County Warden speaks about the recent Pride Flag incident that happened in Norwich.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County has and will continue supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Those were the comments made by Oxford County Warden, Marcus Ryan, after a Pride Flag flying at Emily Stowe Public School in Norwich was set on fire. Warden Ryan says the cowardly actions do nothing to diminish the overwhelming support for the community in Oxford.

The County will continue to show support, as all 8 area municipalities will raise a Pride flag this year.

"What happened last week at an Oxford County elementary school is alarming and heartbreaking: that there are people who would commit these acts, and that they would do so in what should be a safe space for children."

"These acts of hate are not accepted by our community at Pride Month or at any time. Oxford County, as a community and as a municipal government, is fully committed to building safe communities where everyone belongs. It is what we have demonstrated through progressive policies, partnerships, guiding documents, and, above all, our actions. This includes raising the Pride flag again this year in all eight area municipalities in support of Pride Month in Oxford County, which proudly celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year."

"These cowardly actions do nothing to diminish the overwhelming support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Oxford, but fully show why we must continue to support and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives."

The Oxford OPP is investigating the case of mischief and is looking for the public's help to identify the two suspects responsible for this crime.
