All of the proceeds will benefit programs and support services for not only people with Parkinson's, but also their caregivers.
WOODSTOCK - Registration for open for the Oxford County Walk for Parkinson's.
It will take over Roth Park in Woodstock on Sunday September 7th and all of the proceeds will go to the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario.
Registration will start at 1:00 p.m. that day and there will be a raffle table on site with prizes donated by local businesses. The walk itself will begin at 2:00 p.m. and it's from the Roth Park pavilion to the first emergency sign on the paved trail and back.
Community engagement coordinator Stephen Owen says it's about 2.3 kilometres, but you don't have to walk that far if you don't feel up to it.
"We don't ever ask people to go that far if they are not comfortable that day. Walking is part of Parkinson's, so we have to be cognizant of that and aware that they might not be able to do that on that particular day."
You can register and donate online here. Participants can also print off a pledge form and collect donations in person if that is what they prefer. All of the money raised will benefit programs and support services for not only people with Parkinson's, but also their caregivers.
Owen says they like to stay true to their tag line "Hope is Close to Home."
"The beauty of the funds that we raise in Oxford at the Woodstock walk and our other 13 walks that same weekend, is that those funds raise stay in southwestern Ontario."
