It will be a sight to see in downtown Woodstock on June 1st: hundreds of local men wearing high heeled shoes, walking around Museum Square. The 6th annual Walk-a-Mile in her shoes is changing its venue this year. After walking around Southside Park the previous 5-years, the event put on by Domestic Abuse Services Oxford is taking its walk to Museum Square. DASO Spokesperson Barb Wright tells Heart FM they're hoping by hosting the march downtown, it will draw some more attention. "We're excited, because we think its time to raise the profile and to enhance awareness. By moving it downtown, a lot of people will just wander by or be curious." The event runs from 10AM - Noon on Saturday, June 1st. Wright explains the premise of the event. "It's an awareness and a fundraising event that draws attention to the issue of domestic violence. So what we're asking is have men take the lead by wearing a pair of high heeled shoes and walking a mile. It's a fun way to call attention to what is a very serious issue." Pledge forms are also available by visiting the DASO website. The online registration/pledge collection website is now open. You can register online, have your own fundraising page and send the link to your friends and family so they can pledge you electronically.
