Seniors over 80 can expect to start getting vaccinated in mid March, those between 65-80 in April and May and people 40 plus are going to have to wait until the summer.
ONTARIO - Seniors over the age of 80 can expect to start getting a phone call in the next couple of weeks to set up a vaccine appointment.
General Rick Hillier says they hope to start providing vaccines to seniors outside of long term care homes by the middle of March.
"We don't think we will be able to get into it in the first week or 10 days of March, but by the middle of March, we want to start vaccinating those people 80 years of age and older and we will be reaching out to them in the next week to two weeks, to tell them when there opportunity will become available, where they can go to book appointments."
Hillier says he doesn't think they will be able to vaccinate every senior over 80 that wants a dose of the vaccine by the end of March. He was asked when the next age group, those between 65 and 80 can expect a vaccine and said it likely won't happen until April or even May.
"All of it depends on the flow of vaccines and obviously in April and May is when we start to see the bigger numbers of 2.6 or 2.7 million doses per month starting to show and that will allow us to move very quickly through the population base and work downwards from 80 to 75 and 70 but it is not going to be in March, it will be in April or May."
Hillier says younger people, in their 40's and 50's will have to wait until the summer before they can get vaccinated.
