The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is asking for an increase in funding from Oxford County Council.
It amounts to about 10% more - or $79,151 - for a total of $864,569 dollars from the county.
Ian Wilcox says this additional money is needed to increase programming and hire more staff to reduce wait times.
"We want to significantly increase the effort, the resources, and the support for other organizations, service clubs, individual land owners to try and implement water quality and forestry improvements on their properties."
A 20 year plan has been drafted to help support water quality and forestry initiatives. Wilcox says the current efforts are similar to a garden hose putting out a large fire.
"We just need to be able to do more. We want to have visible improvements in the health of the watershed and we believe if there's some investment and some real effort than we will see visible changes in the health of the watershed."
The total purposed budget when including the contributions from all municipalities served by the UTRCA and other sources of funding adds up to $17,897, 496
