If your long weekend plans included hanging out on the Grand River or Upper Thames Waterways, you're being warned about rising water levels. The Grand River and Upper Thames Conservation Authorities say due to the amount of rain received today, water levels are much higher than normal for this time of year. Recreational users need to be aware of these conditions and take them into account when planning activities in or near rivers this weekend. Flows are expected to remain high through the Canada Day weekend. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and when combined with fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from watercourses.
