17-year-old Nick Speirs of Tillsonburg has successful MMA debut
A 17-year-old from Tillsonburg had an impressive showing in his first MMA fight.
Nick Speirs fought in the Novice division at the Ontario Amateur MMA Tournament in Brampton and won both his fights, winning his division.
Speirs is earning the respect of his fellow members at Iron Monkey MMA in Woodstock, who call him "a great athlete".
He tells Heart FM about the kind of preparation he's putting himself through. "It gets pretty intense, it's 3 1/2 hours from 6 o'clock to 9:30. I do that 3-nights a week and then I come in on Saturday's."
Speirs, who's been training for just a year and a half says he's finally found his sport. "It's probably something I do for the rest of my life. Whether I fight at really high level or not, it's something I'll always be a part of."
You can check out video of one of Speirs' fights below.
