United Way Of Oxford Announce Campaign Co-Chairs

They say two heads are better than one. That will be the case when the United Way of Oxford kicks off its next campaign in the fall. Krisiti Cross and Chris Friesen are joining forces as campaign co-chairs, starting in September. Friesen will be balancing United Way work with his duties as Principal at WCI, but he says it's worth the effort. "From working at the school you see how much the United Way helps every family. We have so many kids in our school who benefit from what the United Way does. So it's easy for me to say yes, why wouldn't I want to help out with an organization that helps out with so many of not only the kids in my school, but kids in every school." Kristi Cross is now semi-retired after owning her own downtown business, and Managing the local Canadian Cancer Society branch. She says she has the time to dedicate to the campaign, and looks forward to the challenge. "When you're in business you support through financial or in-kind. But when you have your own hours available to you, that's when you can really get in and be a presence and use the skills that you've learned in your own business to give back to the community." United Way Executive Director Kelly Gilson says she had been seeking Kristi's help for several years. "We were thrilled when she said yes, and we wanted to find a nice complimentary co-chair and we've worked with Chris a lot before as well. They're two wonderful community volunteers, both with very different backgrounds. For us, it's a perfect situation." The next United Way campaign will kick-off in mid-September.
