New Committee looks at which services work in Oxford, and which ones don't.

Changes may be on the way to some programs and services offered by the County.

Wednesday marked the first meeting of the "Services That Work" Ad Hoc Committee, made up of five members of County Council.  (Margaret Lupton, John Lessif, David Mayberry, Ted Comiskey and Pat Sobeski.)

The purpose of the committee is to ensure the County is adapting programs and services that reflect the evolving community needs.  

Deputy Warden, and Chair of the new committee, Margaret Lupton, says while the 2014 budget is already set, the review could have an impact on the budget in coming years. "I think if there are services that do not need to be provided, or need to be provided in a less expensive way, that will be a good thing.  But we will likely find some services that need to be improved, and there will likely be some added costs."

Lupton says it's important for the committee to be made up of Mayors and Councillors since often times they are the first people the public go to when there is an issue.  "The residents often come to us with their comments on how what they needed was provided to them, or wasn't provided to them.  So I think as councillors we can relay that information and bring it to the table."

But with so many services provided by the County, committee members first need to prioritize what services are most important, and work down the list. 

There is no cost to setting up and running the new Ad Hoc Committee.
