It's the second 1st degree murder conviction for Woodstock Police in less than a month. Last night, the jury in John Robinson's murder trial delivered a guilty verdict on a charge of 1st degree murder in the 2008 death of Clifford Fair. It was just last month that Michael Rafferty was convicted in Tori Stafford's murder. Woodstock Police Chief Rod Freeman says it takes countless hours of hard work to bring these murderers to justice. "1st degree murder cases are extremely complex these days. There's a great deal of time, effort, technology, training, there's a lot of things going on in those investigations. To have our two most recent cases resolved with convictions by jury is very satisfying." Police are readying themselves for round three: the trial of Bonita Purtill is set to begin on Monday. She's accused of causing the drunk driving death of 5-month-old Alex Flemming, in 2008. While it's not a 1st degree murder trial, the seriousness and significance of the case can't be understated. A conviction in that case would close out a dark chapter in Woodstock's history. Chief Freeman says "These cases all happened in very close proximity to each other in terms of their timing. We haven't had a case of that nature since then, and we're hoping we go for a long time yet before we have another investigation of that nature."
