Asymptomatic testing will start next week at 4 schools in the TVDSB. None of the first schools selected are in Oxford County, however more schools will be announced each week.
The Thames Valley District School Board will start voluntary asymptomatic testing for students and staff on March 10.
The program will start with just four schools that will have clinic testing sites. Director of Education Mark Fisher says they are pleased to offer this program.
“We are pleased to facilitate testing of students and staff as part of the Ministry of Education’s initiative to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and communities."
The Ministry of Education has mandated school boards make targeted voluntary asymptomatic testing available for two per cent of in-person students in elementary and secondary schools each week.
The locations were selected with the help of local Public Health Units and will include children and staff from child care centres located inside the school. The tests will happen every week on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at designated secondary schools where students from the selected elementary schools can also get tested.
Parents will be notified by email on Monday each week if their child is eligible to be tested. The email will contain links for online registration that should be completed prior to testing.
The following schools have been selected as the first clinic sites where students from selected feeder elementary schools will also be invited for testing:
