TVDSB Parents Have to Make a Decision on In Person or Remote Learning for September

Parents and guardians in the TVSDB have until May 13, to decide if they want their kids to return to in person learning next September or do full remote learning.

OXFORD COUNTY - Parents and guardians need to decide now if they want their kids to attend in person or full remote learning next September in the Thames Valley District School Board.

The deadline to submit your child's learning plan for next year is Thursday, May 13. TVDSB looks forward to welcoming back students next fall to in person learning. The option will be on the table for anyone who wishes to remain with the remote learning model. TVDSB Director of Education Mark Fisher says they understand this isn't an easy decision.

“We realize that making the decision now may be challenging for some families. The choice that families make for each child will be a commitment for the full year.”

Fisher adds that movement between learning models can cause considerable disruptions to many students, including those who are not changing learning models themselves.

“While we believe that in-person learning best supports students, we also recognize that given unique circumstances, some families may want their child to learn remotely."

Emails have been sent out this week with a document called Getting Ready for September 2021. You can find more information online at www.tvdsb.ca/Readyfor2021.

Thames Valley strongly recommends parents carefully read the document and contact their child’s school for further information, if necessary, to determine which learning model is right for their children.

Some important considerations include:

- French Immersion programming will be offered In-Person only

- Due to the nature of some courses, not all courses will be available to secondary students enrolled in Full Remote Learning

- Your child’s strengths as a learner and ability to use technology independently. Engagement and participation online are required and critical to student success

- The need for student interaction with peers

- Your family’s ability to support and, for younger students, supervise remote learners during the day

- Access to and involvement in extra-curricular activities such as clubs, teams and events
