Toyota Workers Head Back to Work

With added safety measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a select number of Toyota employees will be returning to work today, as the company slowly ramps up to full production.

WOODSTOCK - It's not going to be business as usual quite yet, but a select number of staff are returning to Toyota Motor Manufacturing plants in both Cambridge and Woodstock today.  

Team Leaders will be prepping the facilities ahead of all line workers which are expected to return to work by Wednesday. They will spend the day reviewing all of the new safety measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The company will add more employees tomorrow, then again throughout the week, as the automaker slowly ramps up to full production.  

Both plants closed March 19th due to the COVID-19 pandemic, originally anticipated to last only 2 weeks. However, the closure was extended as the pandemic ensued. Between the two Ontario plants, two positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed when operating and another three workers have tested positive since the closure. 

As production ramps up, economists are projecting a decline in auto sales this year, by as much as 30% over 2019.
