6th annual event looks to raise money for childhood cancers
INNERKIP - More than 140 teams are preparing for the sixth annual Toss'em Up for Childhood Cancer Ring Ross.
The annual event is in partnership with the SEARS National Coast-to-Coast ride for children's caner. A local rider, Jeremy Mason will be taking part in the national event the money will help pay for his $25,000 registration which go toward fighting cancer.
Co-organizer Deb Roloson says "it originally started 6 years ago by the VanDyk family in town who lost their son Nick to cancer. It was a game that the family really enjoyed. A year later, our family, lost our family member Cassy to cancer and the two families joined forces to make this event happen every year."
She says this is an event that everyone can get behind.
"Cancer generally effects a lot of people in our community and you know, for us the childhood cancer, when it takes people so young it really hits home. This is a passion for both of our families and it's a love of ours to put this on and we are just happy that we can give back a little bit."
Roloson says in the six years they have been hosting the event, they have raised more than $120,000 for childhood cancer.
"Right now out registration sits at about 140 teams, each team has 2 people so there will be well over 300 people who will be out at the event. It's being held in Innerkip this year. We do have a silent auction. It is a licensed event so people can come out and have a drink."
While registration is closed, locals are encouraged to come out and watch.
It takes place today from 1-6pm at the Innerkip Community Centre.
