TILLSONBURG - The Tillsonburg Football Club have partnered with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS.
They reached an affiliation agreement with the professional club earlier this month and their development centre out of London.
President Mark Locker says he's excited to be a part of the program.
"The Whitecaps have been one of those organizations that if you're good enough, you're going someplace. So they kind of give us the pathway for our good, young soccer players in Canada and for us we're just trying to grow and we're trying to expand and we're trying to have a way that people would want to come to Tillsonburg and play soccer."
The partnership will focus on player development as well as training for coaches provided by the Whitecaps.
It'll provide multiple opportunities for boys and girls playing from U8 all the way up to U-17/18.
The affiliation agreement will give Tillsonburg players a chance to play at the highest levels of the Ontario Professional Development League and other opportunities including regular scouting and receiving university scholarships.
Locker says the partnership benefits both coaches and players.
"This area is full of great soccer players that I think that in the past have never been able to be looked at. It also gives us the opportunity to grow our club and make it one the clubs that everybody would like to come to."
He adds it will also allow them to grow and become a better club all-around.
