Tillsonburg Council Reject New IT Job

Tillsonburg Council defeated a recommendation to hire a new manager for their IT department Monday. The rejection comes just weeks after the town had a security issue with their network. The new job town staff created is Manager of Network, Security and Technology. ?It was essentially to help us develop and create our own internal information and technology network and to give us some internal expertise to help us serve the community, businesses and the public in a different way than we have in the past,? said the town?s Acting CAO David Samis. Currently, an IT Transition Team is working on the network; the new manager would take over much of their work. But councillors thought the job was too vague. Deputy Mayor Mark Renaud saw many problems in the report. ?Any time a report comes to one of us, we need to make sure that all of the details about that position are in the report. I felt the report was incomplete. Perhaps there is a need to have this position in the town hall; however when recommendation comes to council it should be a full recommendation that has all of the costing impacts, it hadn?t been graded yet and I think it needs to go through a proper process,? said Renaud. Samis insisted the job was necessary for the betterment of the IT department. He said that as the town grows, it needs an internal resource.
