The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is investigating a potential third case of the H5 avian flu at a farm in Oxford County.
Last Thursday a presumptive H5 strain was detected at a turkey farm in one of the quarantine areas.
It was detected by the Animal Health Laboratory at the University of Guelph.
About 8,000 turkeys will be euthanized because of the latest outbreak.
Because the farm was under quarantine it would have been under strict protocols and guidelines when the avian influenza hit.
Currently the CFIA has two quarantine zones in Oxford County as they try to contain the virus.
The zones are a 10 km radius and one of them stretches into the Waterloo region.
If you haven't been contacted by the CFIA it means you are not in one of the zones.
H5 does not pose a risk to food safety as long as the poultry and the products are properly handled and cooked.
We are still waiting to hear from the CFIA if the quarantine zone will be increased after the latest setback.
