Grade 5 and 6 students in Oxford County are getting a chance to experience the Art of Sustainable Energy.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery and Oxford County are teaming up for the Art of Sustainable Energy Education Partnership.
Students in grades 5 and 6 are coming to the Art Gallery for the program which combines art and science. WAG Education Officer Stephanie Porter tells Heart FM the program is line with their current permanent collection exhibition Observations from the Glass House.
"Artists try and tell us issues and concerns that they have through visuals, through their sculptures, paintings and their drawings and it is often not just a pretty picture on the wall, their is often a story behind in."
The education program also pairs a renewable energy workshop led by Jay Heaman who is the Manager of Strategic Initiatives at Oxford County along with an environmentally-themed studio art project developed by Porter. Heaman says he is honoured to be apart of this program.
“It’s an honour to share the wonders and potential of renewable energy with these intelligent and sincere young members of our community. At Oxford County, we are thrilled to support this important message in partnership with the Woodstock Art Gallery’s Art of Sustainable Energy program.”
Six Oxford Schools have already participated in the program. Porter says working together on this initiative just makes sense.
“This education program exceeds expectation and links new learning to real life experiences while exploring science and art. The Art of Sustainable Energy inspires innovation, develops creativity and effectively challenges the decisions we make regarding our environment for our future.”
