THAMESFORD - A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help a quadriplegic in Thamesford purchase a new bed.
Tom Glover was in a very serious car accident 37 years ago and has been confined to a wheel chair ever since. He is on a fixed monthly income and was told by his doctors that he needs to purchase a hospital bed after recently recovering from a serious illness. During this most recent illness it was also determined that he has severe sleep apnoea. Tom currently sleeps on a water bed but the doctors have asked that he now sleep at a 30 degree angle, and during the day sit upright in bed.
His cousin and care taker Ellen Almond says they are exploring a couple of different options to raise money for the new bed.
"We are also doing a pop can drive, there is two locations you can drop pop cans off, one of them is at 163 McCarty Street in Thamesford and the other is 40 Victoria Street in Woodstock."
Almond says that Tom has been bedridden for the past 7 years.
"He has not been able to get up and sit in his wheel chair because he only has a hip on one side, so when he sits up for a prolonged period of time, he tends to sit on the side that has the hip and then the other side tends to break down."
