A new initiative was revealed at this past Saturday's TVDSB Run For The FUNd called the Food Security Program.
WOODSTOCK - The 2024 TVDSB Run For The FUNd was a success, raising $57,000.
Around 200 people attended the 5K charity run at College Avenue Secondary School this past Saturday in support of the Thames Valley Education Foundations Caring Fund, aimed at helping individual students succeed in school.
During the opening ceremonies, TVDSB Director of Education, Mark Fisher unveiled the brand new Food Security Fund.
Executive Director for the Thames Valley Education Foundation, Brittany Webb explains how that differs from the Caring Fund.
"About 70% of the requests we see come in are related to hunger or food insecurities and the Caring Fund does support students and families individually but the Food Security Fund is going to support schools so that they can keep their breakfast programs, their pantries stocked, and their nutrition programs fully functioning so students can get food when they need it."
This was the Thames Valley Education Foundation's 8th and final Run For The FUNd, with a brand new event to be announced at a later date.
8th and final Run for the FUNd was the most successful ever! $57,000 raised today with a total of $215,000 raised for the Caring Fund! Thanks for coming out #TVDSB pic.twitter.com/r1OGoc8aia
