Oxford County Public Health is reminding residents to test their well water on a regular basis to check for bacteria.
Oxford County Public Health is reminding residents with private wells to get your water tested three times a year.
Manager of Health Protection Peter Haywood tells Heart FM why it is important to test your wells for bacteria.
"Well drinking water contaminated with bacteria could cause health problems including gastrointestinal illness which may include diarrhoea, and that is one of the concerns that we have that may lead to these types of conditions and diseases."
The County does offer free well water testing at a number of facilities across the County including at most local libraries.
"Including a number of the libraries, here at 410 Buller Street in Woodstock and at our local hospitals and here we have private well water kits that people can pick up and we also have information related to the maintenance of your well."
Haywood says the best times to test your wells is after maintenance, a heavy thaw or after a night with heavy rain.
