Plums, cherries and nectarines are among the items that can be found in local grocery stores across the province.
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ernie Hardeman says this gives consumers some options on where to buy their fruit.
"I think, first of all, it's important that our local fruit is ripening and this is the season where we get the freshest and the best fruits off the trees in Ontario, and obviously the food growers are a large part in in our agricultural economy and providing that delicious food."
He says they are also available at markets on the farm and at farmers' markets.
For more than 40 years, Foodland Ontario has connected with families on how to recognize, prepare and enjoy locally grown foods.
Hardeman says it varies on how long each fruit stay in season.
"They obviously provide a lot of nutrients such as Vitamin C, there's potassium. Different fruits have different types of attributes more so than others but they're very healthy to eat and I think we can say thee's no artificial flavouring and no artificial additives to them. Just the way they're grown is the way we eat them."
Some of Ontario's fruits have nutrients with pears containing fibre, while plums are high in potassium and items like cherries and grapes are high in antioxidants and folic acid.
