Police say the 13 year old girl was unresponsive, when her dad pulled her from the bottom of the pool and he immediately began CPR.
NORFOLK COUNTY - Norfolk County OPP and EMS rushed to a home on Norfolk County Road 23 after a father pulled his 13 year old daughter out of the pool.
Police say the teen was unresponsive when her dad pulled her from the bottom of the pool and he immediately began CPR. The youth was then transported to a local area hospital and then taken to a Hamilton area hospital for further treatment.
Police are reminding all residents with children that parental and/or responsible adult supervision is required whenever children are engaging in activity that puts them in situations that may challenge their safety. Nothing can substitute for hands-on supervision and direction. The OPP strongly urges parents or caregivers to always ensure that anyone who are identified as weak or non-swimmers, should always wear a lifejacket or personal floatation device when at or near open bodies of waters and back yard pools.
Detachment Commander, Inspector Joseph Varga says when it comes to pools or any body of water, you can't be too safe.
"We are urging all Ontarians to take personal responsibility for ensuring water safety for themselves and their children which include basic safety practices such as learning to swim at an early age; wearing a lifejacket or a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while on a vessel or swimming. Young children or non-swimmers should always wear a PFD while in or near the water in case they become in distress. This can make the difference between surviving, or not."
