United Way Oxford will be collecting donations of cash and menstrual products at the local Shoppers Drug Mart locations next Tuesday in honour of Tampon Tuesday. All donations will stay in the community.
OXFORD COUNTY - United Way Oxford will be collecting tampons at local Shoppers Drug Marts next week.
This is being done for Tampon Tuesday. Resource Development Manager Amanda Kreiger says the goal here is to end period poverty.
"For the past 5 years United Way Oxford has been proud to work with donors, workplaces and sponsors to bring people together to help marginalized families and individuals deal with some of the necessities of life. In addition to collecting and then distributing menstrual hygiene products, we have an opportunity to build awareness and understanding around poverty and the struggles that many in our community face on a day-to-day basis. As our community learns and understands more about these unignorable issues and needs, we can do more to help change social conditions and raise each other up."
All of the donations made locally, will stay local and go towards places like Ingamo Family Homes, DASO, Operation Sharing, Helping Hands Food Bank and Oxford County Community Health Centre.
Lisa Silverthorne, Woodstock East Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacist and Women United member says they will once again be offering a drive thru service.
"Again this year, we are unable to gather in person for a Tampon Tuesday event, but are happy to still support this very important initiative at Shoppers Drug Marts across Oxford County. We are working together to ensure that nobody in our community goes without menstrual products or has to decide between groceries or hygiene supplies. Last year, we collected over 1,400 boxes and raised $2,500 and are hoping for another successful year thanks to your support."
They will be collecting tampons and cash donations at the Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Woodstock, Tillsonburg, Ingersoll and Norwich between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday March 8th. United Way Oxford also encourages others to get involved by running a collection campaign at your workplace, through your church, with your book club, team or your gym.
