Oxford County Council hosted a public meeting regarding a 30 lot subdivision being considered for the south east corner of Otterville. Talks will continue before shovels can be put in the ground.
OTTERVILLE - A new subdivision is in the works for the Village of Otterville.
The Estate of Iva Leah Zimmer submitted has submitted an application for a draft plan and they had a public meeting about the subdivision at the Oxford County Council meeting on Wednesday. Warden Larry Martin says they do have a need for more housing in Otterville.
"It's a 30 lot subdivision, it is the south east corner of Otterville. It is more development once again for housing. The nature of it, I imagine will be for housing that is marketable and their is a demand for more housing in Otterville, it's great, it is going to help our tax base as well, so I wish them all the best. They have a few hurdles to get through yet, but I wish them well."
During the Public Meeting, one resident who lives near the proposed subdivision raised questions about water runoff from storms and drainage. Martin says he thinks those concerns will be addressed.
"I think it will be addressed in site plan control and the plan of subdivision, because they have to look after and manage their own water and as the applicant mentioned, they have also been in conversation with some of the municipal staff in Norwich to help alleviate some of the existing water problems as well, so hopefully at the end of the day, everything will be very good."
Martin says the developer will need to come back to Norwich Township Council before they can put shovels in the ground.
