Talks About Costs For Local Schools Renting Facilities

City staff members are going to continue discussions with the local school boards in the area.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Councillors have voted unanimously to allow city staff members to continue dialogue with the local school boards around rental fees.

The city and the school boards are looking into the possibility of allowing local schools to rent city owned facilities at little or no cost.

Mayor Trevor Birtch explains how the city could benefit from this deal.

"We're looking at opportunities where many of the other members of the community could potentially utilize some of the recreation facilities such as the gymnasiums at the local schools. That would allow us to be able to alleviate some of our own pressures that we're facing for organized activities which would then maybe give council the option to reduce or waive the fees that the schools would incur for utilizing our facilities."

The talks began after a local gym teacher approached Woodstock City Council last month, asking them to cut the fees local schools face when they want to rent city facilities like ball diamonds and tennis courts.
