The health unit says Carfentanil is circulating in Oxford, Elgin and Middlesex.
SWPH - Southwestern Public Health has issued a drug watch for Oxford, Elgin and St. Thomas.
This comes after reports of Carfentanil circulating in the region from the health unit's community partners and known substance users in the area.
Carfentanil is opioid that is 100 times more toxic than fentanyl, so even a small amount could lead to an overdose or death. It's hard to tell if it's in the drugs you're using because you can't see it, smell it, or taste it.
If you are with someone who is experiencing an overdose, you should call 911, give them Naloxone, and stay with them until paramedics arrive to take that person to hospital for further treatment.
Southwestern Public Health also has some recommendations for local organizations and substance users and you can find them online here.
