SWOX Council approves the purchase of land for the potential building of a new office and child care facility.
MOUNT ELGIN - South-West Oxford Council has approved the purchase of land.
The approval came during their meeting on Tuesday, and the space would be used for the possible build of a new SWOX Municipal Office and 88-space child care facility. The Township has outgrown the current municipal office in Dereham Centre, constructed in 1949. The building has had several additions over the years and there is no further room to expand to accommodate staff, meetings and storage space.
Township of South-West Oxford Mayor David Mayberry says this project needs to come sooner rather than later.
"While the current Municipal Office has served the community for 75 years, Council recognizes that it is not meeting our needs very well now and that delaying action will only create further challenges in future."
The Township will pay $975,000 for all the land related to this project in the first quarter of 2025.
