Suspension Orders Issued in Perth County

147 Perth County students could find themselves out of school in the next couple of weeks, if they don't update their vaccination records.

PERTH COUNTY - The Perth District Health Unit has issued 147 suspension orders to students without up to date immunization records.

They have until May 29th to hand in the paperwork, or they will have to miss school.

Public Health Nurse Lorna Askes says it's often just a mix up in some cases.

"A lot of times the parents have the immunizations done; it's just that the records haven't been forwarded on to the Health Unit. For the children that haven't received their immunizations we're certainly working closely with those parents and ensuring that they do receive immunizations."

Askes stresses the importance of getting immunized.

"The childhood diseases such as tetanus - which still does occur - measles, mumps and rubella, pertussis. All of these can be prevented with immunizations and that's what were attempting to do is just make sure children are up to date."

Health Unit staff have been contacting the families of the students affected.

There's multiple ways you can update your child's records;

- Fill out an online form here

- E-mail them to immunizations@pdhu.on.ca

- Call 519-271-7600 ext 240 or 273; toll-free at 1-877-271-7348 ext 240 or 273

- By confidential fax to 519-271-2785

- In person by bringing your child's yellow card to the Health Unit at 653 West Gore Street in Stratford.

If you don't want your child immunized you have to call the Heath Unit and book an appointment to participate in an education session. Afterwards you will receive legal affidavit to hand into the Health Unit.
