ONTARIO - The Sunshine List for 2014 has been released, and in Oxford County it pays to be a Firefighter.
The Public Salary Disclosure Act introduced by Premier Mike Harris created the so-called 'sunshine list.' Under the Act, companies and organizations receiving public funding from the Province of Ontario are required to annually disclose names, positions, salaries, and benefits of employees paid $100 000 or more.
This year's list includes 130 people from Oxford County. Woodstock Fire Services had the highest amount of people listed at 33, while Woodstock Police was a close second with 30.
The highest earner overall was Ontario Power Generation President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Mitchell. He made $1.55 million in salary and benefits. This is the second time he's topped the list.
Premier Kathleen Wynne was paid just over $209,00 last year - up approximately $10,000 from 2013.
There are more than 100 000 people on this year's sunshine list including nurses, teachers, police, firefighters, and other public sector workers.
