Oxford Progressive Conservative MPP Ernie Hardeman is using the Ministry of Finance's latest edition of the sunshine list as ammunition in a call to expand a public sector wage freeze.
The so-called sunshine list of public sector workers earning $100,000 or more was released on Friday.
The 2014 Ontario Ministry of Finance's public sector salary disclosure list grew by 9,384 names, from 88,412 in 2012 to 97,796 in 2013 — an 11 per cent increase.
Oxford Progressive Conservative MPP Ernie Hardeman is using the latest sunshine list to push the party line on widening a public sector wage freeze.
In a news release, Hardeman points to the fact that there are more than 9,000 additional public sector employees making more than $100,000 this year as evidence that changes are required.
“This is why we want to amend the wage freeze bill to include government employees as well as MPPs," Hardeman is quoted as saying in the release.
The 2013 sunshine list contains the names of nurses, doctors, firefighters and police offiers alongside higher earning executives that roam the boardrooms of Ontario's public sector employers. The disclosure of public salaries above $100,000 came into effect in 1996.
