The TVDSB and United Way are teaming up in the Staples parking lot to start the school year off on the right page.
WOODSTOCK - The Thames Valley District School Board is collecting back to school supplies and backpacks for some less fortunate families in the school district.
They will be handing out the backpacks next week. If you want to help in Oxford they are having a Stuff the Bus campaign at Staples with the local United Way on Saturday. Chantal McLaughlin Program Coordinator for Supplies for Students with the TVDSB tells Heart FM some of the items they are really looking for.
"Most of the time we are looking for some of the more expensive items to be donated like lunch bags and calculators, right now we also have a need for rulers and scissors. And that varies day to day because we have lots of community supporters who are doing drives in their own locations."
They will be collecting donations at the Staples parking lot in Woodstock from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday, you can also make a donation at the cash register in the store. All of the donations made in Oxford will stay in Oxford and will go towards helping support local families. The idea is to send the kids to school on September 8th with a new back pack full of all the supplies they need.
