Police are on the lookout for a suspicious man who tried to lure a young teen into his car in Mitchell.
PERTH COUNTY - Perth County OPP are reminding the public about stranger danger after a young teenage girl was offered a ride to school by a middle aged man.
The girl's parents called police after the stranger approached their daughter on Victoria Street in Mitchell.
Police say the man asked the girl if she wanted a ride because she was going to be late for school and that he had just gotten off the phone with her father. That was a complete lie and the girl did the right thing, refusing the ride and continuing her walk to school. The stranger continued to follow her to school and was last seen heading southbound on Nelson Street.
Police are looking for a white man believed to be between the ages of 30 and 40, wearing a light shirt, black curly, puffy hair and wrap around sunglasses. He was driving a clean black older model four door car with a silver strip near the doors.
The Perth County OPP requests the public assistance in identifying the male and the vehicle involved in this incident. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Education is the key and there are several discussions parents can have with their children regarding stranger awareness. One key element is to reinforce that children should never accept rides from strangers."
