Jake Muzzin to show off Stanley Cup Sunday

WOODSTOCK - As promised, the Stanley Cup is coming to Woodstock this Sunday.

LA Kings defenceman and Friendly City native, Jake Muzzin will be celebrating his day with the Cup with family and friends but is also inviting the community to join him.

"We're bringing the Cup into the Complex to one - let a lot of the kids come in and see it, take pictures and if they want an autograph. Just to get it out there and for the community to see and enjoy for a couple of hours in the afternoon."

The festivities will kick off at 1:30 pm with a parade beginning at the corner of Wellington and Dundas. The parade will head south on Wellington to Henry, over to Finkle and eventually ending at the Community Complex. A civic reception will be held at Goff Hall from 2:00 to 4:00 pm where people can meet Jake, see the Cup up close, have a photo taken and grab an autograph. Woodstock Minor Hockey will also be on hand hosting a charity barbecue to support the Alf Langdon Play Hockey Fund, providing financial resources for boys and girls that may not be able to afford the registration fees or equipment for hockey. Merchandise will also be sold on site with a portion of those sales benefitting the Alf Langdon Play Fund as well.

Jake said it was important to him to share his Cup experience with the local kids, especially those in hockey. "I think it's important for kids in Woodstock and you know maybe not the biggest market of hockey and to see that someone from Woodstock can accomplish their goal and make it to the NHL. So I mean if helps out with the kids a little bit and gives them a little motivation or just a smile I guess really is all that we need but I mean, if it helps out a little bit it's huge for us."

As for Jake's other plans for the day, he says he will spend time with his family, perhaps enjoy some vino from the Cup with his dad's side of the family who are Italian. He's also attending a barbecue with some of his old teammates from Woodstock minor hockey and when asked what else he may consume from the Cup, besides a few cold beverages with friends he thought perhaps with Woodstock being the Dairy Capital, milk might be a good choice.
