Terry Fox once had a dream to run across the country and raise money to find a cure for cancer.
Schools across the county are helping keep the dream alive this fall, by participating in Terry Fox runs at their schools.
Maddie McIntyre, a grade 12 student at St. Mary's High Schools, battled the same type of cancer as Terry Fox, and won.
"For me, just thinking about having half a fake leg, I can't even imagine running so he's just an inspiration to me and he's definitely my hero so this run means a lot to me."
This year, their run was dedicated to 12-year-old Mark Tucker, who is a brother of St. Mary's student Sarah.
"Cancer is a really scary thing that I've dealt with my whole life with adult family members and now it's my brother. It's scary to see adults go through it and kids should not have to go through it and kids do and my brother does so it's really cool that all these people are standing up and doing this for kids like my brother and Maddie."
On Thursday, St. Mary's had reached $7000 of their $10,000 fundraising goal.
