An annual event put on by Big Brothers, Big Sisters will be held at the the Tillsonburg Community Complex this Friday
TILLSONBURG - Time is quickly running out to get a ticket for the Bid for Kid's Sake and Battle of the Hor D'oeuvres.
This event support Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and area. Executive Director Deb Landon says they have lots of yummy treats to offer in the Battle of the Hor D'oeuvres. "The way that works is that everyone that has a ticket has a passport to go around and taste each of the hors d’oeuvres and then they judge for the People's Choice Award and then we have a panel of judges from the Fanshawe Chef School and Elliot Coelho from Trends in Simcoe that will be judging for the Critic's Choice Award."
Of course they have lots of items available for the silent and live auctions as well. Landon hopes people will get into the spirit and bid high. "We've got some great items this year - again from West Jet and Via Rail, lots of furniture and jewelry, and Wayne Gretzky's family and Walter Gretzky have donated prints and we have them framed, and a fair truck ride, Jeff Dunham tickets at Budweiser Gardens."
Landon points out that the funds raised during the Bid for Kid's Sake and Battle of Hor D'oeuvres go to a good cause - supporting the program they offer. "We service over 200, almost 250 children a year in all of our programs. We have 65 children waiting for our Big Brother, Big Sister program right now and many more waiting in the schools for the in school mentoring program. So there is a need, we are not funded by the government, so all of our programs are dependant on the community's support."
The event will be at the Community Centre in Tillsonburg on Friday. Tickets are $3.
